Leftist Groups Tapping $1 Billion to Vastly Expand the Private Financing of Public Elections

Democrats and their progressive allies are vastly expanding their unprecedented efforts, begun in 2020, to use private money to influence and run public...

As the November midterm elections inch closer, an interesting question has begun to emerge. If Democrats would somehow manage to pull off a win and keep control of the House of Representatives, will Nancy Pelosi remain Speaker of the House?

It’s a question Pelosi managed to dodge when asked about it recently.

And the same question remains if Democrats lose in 2022. Will Pelosi maintain her spot at the top of the Democrat dogpile?

What Democrats are being tight lipped about is whether there are enough of them that actually want her to remain in leadership.

A new report from CNN is speculating on an interesting scenario. If the Democrats lose in November, Democrats would be itching to tell Pelosi to take a hike.

And it’s not a new question. A deal made in 2018 with Pelosi and those Democrats who were looking for new leadership blood at the time gave her a “term limit” of four more years at the helm.

There is definitely a split on, win or lose, whether Pelosi should stay or go. Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) has Pelosi to thank for helping him defeat at far-left primary opponent. He said, “I support Pelosi. I’ll support her for whatever position.”

Rep. Vicente Gonzalez had a unique answer, “I think if we win the House, she’ll deserve it — it’s as simple as that.” However, if Democrats lose in November, “The dynamics change. I think it changes the game.”

The differing opinions wanted to remain anonymous. One Democrat identified as “senior” said, “She has to go.” Another, Identified as “long time” stated, “No way she can stay.” Still another “veteran” stated matter factly, “She doesn’t have the votes.”

Why so serious? It was just a question…https://t.co/yztq1jkxOS

Establishment vs. Progressives

There may be a good enough argument that Nancy Pelosi started losing a bit of control of her party as more progressives were elected.

In 2020, the rift between those two factions centered around Pelosi’s endorsement of Joseph P. Kennedy III in a Massachusetts Democrat Senate primary over incumbent Sen. Ed Markey, a far-left progressive.

Perhaps Nancy Pelosi’s greatest challenge in the recent past has been the emergence of the “Squad,” far-left progressives and socialists like ringleader Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Reps. Ayanna Presley (D-MA), Rashida Tlab (D-MI), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and Cori Bush (D-MO).

The group has not been shy about what they think their place in the House and in the Democrat Party ought to be.

Ocasio-Cortez at one point implied that Pelosi would not hear amendments to a Senate-passed border spending bill put forth by the progressives because of their race. The contention culminated in a closed door meeting in July 2019 between Pelosi and Ocasio-Cortez. At the time, both said the meeting was good and had kind words to say about each other.

Now, however, Ocasio-Cortez may see an opening for change in leadership. She stated, “I think if we’re in a minority then I think that the desire for change will be broader, potentially within the party. But I think that desire exists. We saw and heard that desire in the last two terms that Democrats were the majority, so it really is just a question of, not if people want that, but how many?”

Ironically, Nancy Pelosi, whether she is loved or hated by her fellow Democrats, may be the only thing standing in the way of factions like the Squad taking the party full-on socialist.

Both of Pelosi’s underlings, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC), are in their 80’s and might not be able to put up a fight against the Squad.

November could indeed be an intriguing time.
