Ward, 43, has been accused of robbing several businesses, including gas stations.
According to TMZ Sports’ correspondence with local law enforcement, Ward did not use a gun during the robberies but did use force and fear to get money from the stores. Ward was taken into custody Monday afternoon and booked around 6:30 p.m. local time.
The former Super Bowl champion was selected by the New York Jets in the seventh round of the 2004 draft. He was cut by the Jets and was eventually signed by the Giants later that offseason. Ward spent most of his professional career with the Giants and was a member of the 2007 Super Bowl-winning Giants team. Ward finished his eight-year career with 2,628 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns across seasons with the Giants, Houston Texans, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Ward remains in custody, with his bail set at $250,000.
