Republicans currently hold a never-before-seen double-digit lead on a generic ballot according to the latest CNBC poll – meaning voters who would prefer any Republican to any Democrat.

In fact, the numbers are equal parts historic and devastating as the 2022 midterms approach.

“In the past 20 years, CNBC and NBC surveys have never registered a double-digit Republican advantage on congressional preference, with the largest lead ever being 4 points for the GOP,” CNBC reports.

Consider that for a second, especially in light of the massive red waves in 1994 and 2010.

The Democrat pollster for the survey, Jay Campbell, issued a stark warning to the Democrat Party.

“If the election were tomorrow, it would be an absolute unmitigated disaster for the Democrats,” he said.

(CNBC poll) For the first time in any CNBC or NBC poll in history, Republicans have a double digit advantage going into the midterm.

It’s The Economy, Stupid

The CNBC report notes that “Americans’ views on the state of the economy look to have helped drag down both [President] Biden’s and the Democrats’ numbers.”

Biden’s approval rating on handling the economy declined in the survey. He is 19 points underwater on the issue (37 approve, 56 disapprove) and 41% of the public believes the economy will get worse in the next year.

CNBC also reveals that inflation is the chief concern of American voters right now.

The bad news got a whole lot worse on that front this morning, as reports indicate inflation rose 6.8% in November, a 39-year high as consumer prices soar ever higher.

Biden said inflation was transitory, but it isn’t. He said illegal immigration was seasonal, but it’s not. He said he’d get all Americans out of Afghanistan, but he didn’t. He said he wouldn’t enact a vaccine mandate, but he did.

Biden has attempted to counter the news by insisting repeatedly – falsely – that “wages are up.”

Real average hourly earnings decreased by 1.9% over the past year.

Generic Ballot Poll Woes

The alarming poll numbers extend beyond inflationary concerns and the economy on the generic ballots.

CNBC writes that the preference of voters has shifted toward a Republican Congress “regardless of what respondents believe to be the top issue facing the country.”

That includes the aforementioned inflation and economy – extending even to the handling of coronavirus and climate change.

Climate change!

“Those who thought climate change was the most important issue in October preferred Democratic control of Congress by a 59-point margin. That’s now fallen to a 33-point margin,” according to CNBC.

Another Democrat pollster tasked with performing an autopsy of voting trends following an election massacre endured by the party in Virginia has said he would tell 2022 midterm candidates, “we have a problem.”

“If we are in that position again, we’re going to lose a ton of races,” he warned. “We’ve got to have something better.”

“The No. 1 issue for women right now is the economy, and the No. 1 issue for Black voters is the economy, and the No. 1 issue for Latino voters is the economy.” ⁦~@jmartNYThttps://t.co/uxYI74ViEx

One Democrat strategist who advises major donors said even despite minor victories on infrastructure and spending bills the writing is on the wall heading into 2022.

It’s “too late, we’re f***ed,” he said.
