With the first Grey Cup being contested since 2019, it’s only right that Winnipeg would try to make history in the process. The Blue Bombers won in 2019, beating Hamitlon 33-12 for their 11th Grey Cup title.
This year’s Grey Cup features a rematch of the two teams, something which hasn’t happened since 2009-10 when Montreal and Saskatchewan faced off in both years, with Montreal winning both times. The Blue Bombers are also looking to become the first repeat champions since that Alouettes team in 2010.

Winnipeg boasts the league’s Most Outstanding Player in quarterback Zach Collaros, who was second in completion percentage and yards but led the league in touchdowns. Kenny Lawler, the league’s only 1,000-plus yard receiver and the league’s leader in that category, also plays for Winnipeg, giving the Blue Bombers’ offense a real chance to take over the game.
Thanks in part to Collaros and Lawler, the Blue Bombers’ offense was one of the league’s best, ranking second in both points and yards per game.

Hamilton, meanwhile, finished the year at 8-6 and have a tall task in front of them, but also benefit from having a home game in the finals. The Tiger-Cats are 5-2 at home this year and have the league’s leader in interceptions in Cariel Brooks, so if he can lock in on Lawler, the Tiger-Cats may have a chance.

8:34 p.m.: Collaros with an impressive heave into the wind to Rasheed Bailer for 34 yards to the Hamilton 27.
8:34 p.m.: Winnipeg gets a first down after Andrew Harris picks up a few on second-and-2. Bombers ball on the 49 now.
8:31 p.m.: The Tiger-Cats will punt to begin third quarter.
8:30 p.m.: Hamilton gets the ball to start the half at their own 41.
Halftime: Hamilton 10, Winnipeg 7
7:54 p.m.: TOUCHDOWN HAMILTON. Masoli hits Dunbar wide open in the front of the end zone and Hamilton takes the lead late in the first half. Hamilton 10, Winnipeg 7 with 15 seconds left in the half.
7:53 p.m.: Hamilton’s biggest offensive play of the day is a 37-yard run by Don Jackson down to the Winnipeg 12. Now first-and-10 from the 12.
7:50 p.m.: Andrew Harris picks up 5 for the Bombers following a Hamilton punt. Second-and-5 from the Winnipeg 15 for the Bombers and they’ll punt it away.
7:47 p.m.: Hamilton takes back over quickly after the field goal as Winnipeg goes two-and-out. TiCat ball at their own 49 with 1:39 left.
7:45 p.m.: FIELD GOAL HAMILTON. The TigerCats make it a four-point game as they kick the field goal with 2:26 left in the half. Winnipeg 7, Hamilton 3.
7:41 p.m.: Don Jackson takes it for the first down. First-and-10 for Hamilton at the Winnipeg 12.
7:38 p.m.: Masoli’s first pass of the game is to Steven Dunbar for 5 and it’s third-and-inches. Masoli scrambles and Hamilton converts as he takes this one for 7.
7:37 p.m.: Jeremiah Masoli comes in at QB for Hamilton and immediately scrambles and takes it for 5.
7:35 p.m.: Evans is still down and getting tended to. Game goes to commercial.
7:33 p.m.: Don Jackson takes it 21 yards for Hamilton and it’s the first really sizeable run of the game for either side. Now second-and-8 at midfield for the Tiger-Cats and there’s a flag on the play for roughing the passer. Evans is down for Hamilton.
7:29 p.m.: Winnipeg is set ot punt it away also and Hamilton takes over trailing by seven with about 10 minutes left in the first half.
7:27 p.m: After Hamilton punts, Collaros hits Lawler for an impressive gain and a first down to the Winnipeg 39.
7:25 p.m: Evans’ pass on first down goes to Jaelon Acklin for 13 and it’s now second-and-6 on the Hamilton 47 for the TiCats.
7:24 p.m.: Dane Evans comes out to try and lead the Tiger-Cats to something other than a two-and-out. They start this drive at their own 30.
7:21 p.m.: FIELD GOAL WINNIPEG. Castillo nails the 33-yarder and Winnipeg opens the quarter with points. Winnipeg 7, Hamilton 0 with 13:22 left in the second.
7:20 p.m.: Hamilton gets a sack as Zach Collaros is dropped for a loss of 6 and Sergio Castillo comes out again for another field goal.
7:19 p.m.: It’s first-and-10 on the Hamilton 20 for Winnipeg and Harris’ carry gains only three yards. Second-and-7 upcoming.
End quarter 1: Winnipeg 4, Hamilton 0
7:16 p.m.: The last play of the quarter comes in and Winnipeg leads 4-0.
7:13 p.m.: Another two-and-out for the Tiger Cats but a bad punt that goes just 9 yards and Winnipeg takes over at the Hamilton 30.
7:10 p.m.: Winnipeg had some decent gains but ultimately the penalty was too much to overcome. Blue Bombers punt it away on third-and-14 with 2:30 left in the first quarter but get a point on the punt. Lead 4-0 now.
7:07 p.m.: Andrew Harris picks up a few on first and then Collaros hits Darvin Adams for 13 and a first down. After a hands to the face penalty, it’s first-and-20 from the Winnpeg 44 for the Bombers.
7:04 p.m.: Dane Evans is dropped for a big loss on second down. Third-and-26 and Hamilton punts it away again. Janarion Grant reutrns it cleanly this time.
7:03 p.m.: Hamilton gets called for a penalty. Now second-and-20 from their 36.
7:02 p.m.: Hamilton’s first play following the field goal goes for 11 and a first down. Hamilton now nearing midfield.

6:57 p.m.: The league’s leading receiver, Kenny Lawler, hauls one in for 14. Nice gain for Winnipeg as they’re up to the Hamilton 30 looking at second-and-8.
6:55 p.m.: Ruling is in fact that Grant fumbled. Hamilton takes over on its 49 but Winnipeg picks it off and takes back over immediately.
6:52 p.m.: Janarion Grant has a nice return on the punt, but it’s currently under review for a fumble. Either way, one team will be taking over near midfield.
6:51 p.m.: Hamilton takes over on its own 18. First play is a run good for 2 yards and Dane Evans’ second down pass falls incomplete. Third-and-8 and Hamilton punts on its second straight possession.
6:46 p.m.: Hamilton and Winnipeg trade two-and-outs as Winnipeg punts on third-and-6 from the Hamilton 47.
6:44 p.m.: It’s quickly second-and-9 for the TiCats and the pass falls incomplete. They’ll punt on just their first drive of the game.
6:43 p.m.: The ball is kicked and Hamilton returns it to the 23-yard line. That’s where their first drive will start.
6:40 p.m.: With ‘Oh, Canada’ sung now action appears slated to get started. Winnpieg title defense should begin shortly.
