FLASHBACK: Trump Vows to Bring Back the Phrase ‘Merry Christmas!’

Must read

I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful Christmas! I sure did.

Unfortunately, there are also plenty of families out there that are still not speaking to one another, opting to cancel the enchantment of Santa and scolding others for daring to utter the phrase Merry Christmas!

The war on Christmas was waged long ago in the early 2000s thanks to over-educated, far too profoundly affected left-wing Scrooges who get their jollies off of telling the rest of us how bad we are for believing in something extraordinary like Santa and celebrating a holiday all about new love and giving.

Unfortunately, this year is no different than the other years, with politicians pandering to the ill-humored, politically correct.

That’s why it’s essential to take a trip to Christmas not so past and reminisce on one of former President Donald Trump’s more festive campaign promises. The promise to bring back Christmas!

Bringing It Back!

Twas the year before the 2016 election, and all through the nation, not a liberal was stirring, not even Hillary Clinton. Instead, the country and world believed that Donald Trump would never become President of the United States and, for the most part, thought him to be a mere caricature, much like old St. Nick himself.

But instead of a jolly old man with bright rosy cheeks, The Donald was a provocative old man with a slightly orange tint.

Along with various other promises, candidate Trump at the time said:

“Remember the expression ‘Merry Christmas’? You don’t see it. You’re going to see it if I’m elected.”

And like a real-life Christmas miracle, we found ourselves a year later welcoming the news of our next President, Donald Trump. But did he bring back Christmas? Can we welcome the holiday back into our homes and hearts?

Many would argue he did. A year later, in 2017, at one of many of his speeches, President Trump said:

“We’re getting near that beautiful Christmas season that people don’t talk about anymore. They don’t use the word Christmas because it’s not politically correct.”

The ‘they’ that always seems to be lurking, the ‘they’ whose heads might not be screwed on quite right, or perhaps the ‘they’ whose shoes are too tight, tried as they might to erase the word Christmas, would be met with frustration as Trump would say Merry Christmas and give them a good fright.

On The Way Out

But, like all good stories, this one had to come to an end. Mike Huckabee told our former Commander-in-Christmas:

“It was all ‘Happy Holidays.’ You deliberately changed that and openly said, ‘Merry Christmas – we’re going to say it again.’”

To which President Trump explained that it was “part of my campaign.” He went on to take credit where credit was due:

“When I started campaigning, I said, ‘you’re going to say Merry Christmas again.’ And now people are saying it.”

But bringing back Merry Christmas wasn’t enough to sway the electorate. Like the classic Christmas poem by my favorite Tennyson, the American people voted to ring out the old and ring in the…old.

So here we are celebrating another Christmas with President Joe Biden. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before Uncle Joe regales us with a fantastic story about how he was a good friend with St. Nick back when they were both running routes in their big rigs.

So how is Christmas doing now, under good ole’ Uncle Joe?

2017: Merry Christmas!

2018: Merry Christmas!

2019: Merry Christmas!

2020: Merry Christmas!

2021: Happy Holidays.

2022: Happy Holidays.

In 2025, President Donald J. Trump will bring “Merry Christmas” back to the White House.

He Knows When You Are Woke

The assault on Christmas hasn’t stopped and likely wouldn’t have even if Trump had won a second term. But this year, we have some new assaults against our beloved holiday.

Parents are opting to tell their children that Santa doesn’t exist, with the hashtag #santaisntreal receiving over 19 million views on TikTok. And for those who have decided to keep the magic of Santa alive but want to pretend to be enlightened, get a whole new selection of mall Santas to choose from.

HBOMax’s documentary ‘Santa Camp’ features how the Santa industry has evolved to be more inclusive. Now seeing a black Santa isn’t something new; I think I’ve seen about five this year alone.

But now we have a new kind of Santa, Trans Santa. That’s right; there is at least one trans-Santa named Levi Traux in Chicago.

Nothing like telling your kids that they better be good or Trans Santa won’t come down the chimney while they sleep and leave gifts and toys in their stockings and under the Christmas tree. Perhaps Trans Santa will leave you a nice chest binder or a bulge enhancer under the tree this year.

Still, if you are naughty…you might get stuck with a more gender-traditional gift like dolls and toy trucks.

Shudder the thought.

All I Want For Christmas

Change is normal, and we should all learn to do better by accepting change. Change is how you grow, and most of the time is healthy.

Many of my generation and older are changing their family holiday traditions to include those surrounding Christmas. But, if I’m being honest, we are a very non-traditional family when it comes to Christmas.

Since it’s just my husband and two kids, we don’t have a big meal; in fact, we let the kids choose, and for the second year in a row, we will be dining on chili dogs for Christmas dinner. We don’t wear matching pajamas, and we don’t do elf on a shelf.

But we do believe in Santa, we do write Christmas cards, and we do say Merry Christmas. But, unfortunately, I have received few Christmas cards from my family this year. I haven’t heard a peep from some in over two years because they’ve decided our political differences are more important than our shared family ties.

While President Trump probably didn’t really bring back the phrase Merry Christmas, I sure wish he would, at least for my extended family.

Happy Christmas to all my readers, and to all of you, a good night.
